On 16 October 2021, 17 Jesuit scholastics were ordained to the diaconate by Bishop Honesto Flores Ongtioco DD of the diocese of Cubao, Philippines. From the 17 Jesuit Scholastics, two of them belong to the dependent region of Thailand, Br. Narongrit Daorueangphadung (Tua) and Br. Pha Ngo Hoang Dung (Dung). There were not many people at the ordination ceremony, because of the Philippines government's protocol that limits people for gathering. However, many people from around the world followed the Holy Mass online through Facebook and YouTube. The ordination was very simple but meaningful for people who joined, especially for the new deacons.
For the Jesuits in Thailand, I think this is God’s gift which we have received since the last Jesuit priesthood ordination three years ago. Now, we are glad to have two deacons who belong to the Thai region. Br. Tua is from Chiang Mai and Br. Dung is from Vietnam. Both of them are in their fourth year of theology studies at the Loyola School of Theology at Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines. However, we need to keep them in our prayer that hopefully, they will be able to go back and do their ministry next year in Thailand.
We give thanks for the many blessings that God has given to the Jesuits in Thailand, especially the new deacons, Br. Tua and Br. Dung. This is a vocation that God calls each one into an ever deeper relationship with God and with each other – and into some kind of service. The primary calling of Christians is to represent Christ in the world and continue his mission and loving service to all people. But service can take many forms, so where is God calling you?
